Present-day Northampton is the latest in a series of settlements that began in the Bronze Age. In 1959, the M1 motorway was opened to the south-west of the town and in 1968, Northampton was designated a New Town mainly to accommodate the overflow population from London. Both these events and the rail link helped Northampton's growth as a commuter town for London.
Northampton was a major centre of shoemaking and other leather industries, although only specialist shoemaking companies such as Crockett & Jones survive. A large number of old shoe factories are now converted into offices or accommodation.
Northampton’s medieval market square is one of Britain's largest and most historic, dating back to 1235. The market square is linked to Abington Street, a major shopping area of Northampton. There are also two shopping centres in the town centre: the Grosvenor Centre and Market Walk.
Billing Aquadrome Leisure Park is on the eastern outskirts with a caravan site, marina, funfair, bar, riverside restaurants. Events such as the Northampton Carnival, the Delapre Beer Festival, the Umbrella Fair, Diwali celebrations and St Crispins Fair annually bring many visitors to Northampton.
The first University of Northampton was established by royal charter by King Henry III in 1261 and started to rival the universities in Cambridge and Oxford. The current university spreads over two campuses across the town, but a new £330 million development will see it move to one new waterside campus by the River Nene in the town centre by 2018.
Visitors, students and locals have an array of cafes, bars, pubs, takeaways and restaurants to choose from throughout the town. Rats and mice are scavengers that can flourish in urban areas, eating everything from rubbish in bins to discarded left-overs. Scavenging pigeons and gulls will also take food scraps from restaurants, cafes, takeaways and unsecured bin bags. Our local bird control specialists can offer innovative, effective deterrents for a variety of nuisance birds.
There are a total of 170 parks and open spaces around Northampton. Abington Park, which is the town's oldest, and the Racecourse, which was used for horseracing (until 1904) are the most popular.
Rodents will use open spaces such as parks and gardens as safe harbourages to nest. Rats will then forage in nearby sheds, basements, garages and gardens for food scraps, spilt litter, unsecured bin bags and any other potential food sources.
Rats and mice are opportunistic scavengers surviving in urban areas from Collingtree to Towcester, that can offer them easy food and shelter.
Rodents eat anything from contents of refuse and compost bins, discarded left-overs to fruits and seeds in gardens and parks as well as food in our homes if they get in.
Our Northampton pest control team are qualified to British Pest Control Association level 2 with the knowledge, expertise and resources to deal with all pest issues.
Local technicians, field biologists and specialist bird control technicians are on hand from Delapre to Upton, Chapel Brampton and beyond to respond quickly to help keep your home or business free from pests.
