The name Yeovil means ‘town on the river’. Its strategic position on the Fosse Way (now A37) between Dorchester and Ilchester was vital to the Romans and it remains an important market town. The historic centre is built around the noble 14th century church of St John the Baptist, and Hendford Manor also close to the town centre. Built around 1720 this Grade II listed building has since been converted into offices. Refurbished and restored buildings, such as Foundry House (a former glove factory) now converted into a restaurant and offices with new shops and houses built on the surrounding site. This gives Yeovil a varied mix of architecture. Properties of any age or size can become susceptible to pest problems such as woodworm or issues with condensation.
Yeovil has a temperate climate which is generally wetter and milder than the rest of the country. Atlantic depressions are vigorous in autumn and winter, and most of the rainfall during those seasons is from this source, with November to March having the highest mean wind speeds. Locations that have experienced frequent fluvial flooding , including communities at Ilchester, Mudford, Yetminster, Stoford, Thorny, Yeovilton, and Bridgehampton have flood walls to help protect them. Excess damp from flooding or prolonged heavy rains can enter through the fabric of a property leading to possible structural damage and timber decay from penetrating or rising damp. Problems such as dry rot may occur months after the water levels have returned to normal, in voids or under floorboards which are out of everyday sight.
I have worked for Rentokil Property Care for over 2 years and have gained a wide knowledge base within the building industry, which has proved valuable when identifying defects and recommending suitable remedial treatment for the preservation of your property.
I enjoy working for Rentokil Property Care as a Surveyor, using my Building Surveyor's degree gained from Greenwich University to offer solutions to timber and damp problems in buildings.
