Woodworm Treatment

Treating Woodworm

Rentokil offer woodworm treatment to properties of all age and sizes. Our woodworm specialists are based across the country and ready to carry out treatments to control any woodworm beetle infestation.

Rentokil’s woodworm treatment includes:

  • Water based treatments - designed to minimise the exposure of people, pets and the environment to our products
  • Fogging - our unique fogging systems are used to treat floors so that in most cases carpets and furniture do not need to be removed from the room when treated. Fogging can often allow the room to be back in use two hours after woodworm treatment.

What is Woodworm?

Woodworm is the collective name for a number of species of Woodboring Insects that attack wood. Common woodworm beetle

include the Common Furniture Beetle (Anobium punctatum) and the Death Watch Beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum). The term “woodworm” refers to the larval or “worm” stage of the insects’ life when they bore and eat wood.

Woodworm can attack wood within the structure of a building and even the wood within your home furnishings. If left untreated, woodworm can seriously weaken timber leading to the eventual failure of the structure of a building.

How To Identify Woodworm

Woodworm beetles and woodboring insects use wood as a food source or as a home and they often leave signs of their presence such as:

  • holes or tunnels within the timber.
  • bore dust caused by emerging adult beetles from the timber.
  • weak and damaged flooring - in extreme cases a foot or chair leg going through the floor can indicate a more serious problem.

Woodworm Season

Did you know that woodworm are seasonal pests? From May to October each year, these pests can be seen exiting from flooring and roof timbers in properties all across the UK.

Woodworm Survey by Rentokil

A Rentokil surveyor will carry out a thorough inspection to assess the extent of the woodworm problem . The surveyor will determine if the infestation is active and in need of woodworm treatment. Associated problems such as rot or damp, will also be checked.

The surveyor will identify the type of woodworm infestation, how far the infestation has spread and if any timbers may need to be replaced.

Based on this evaluation the surveyor will make recommendations for the appropriate woodworm treatment.
