Thermal imaging surveys detect hidden pests

Rentokil thermal imaging surveys use Infra Red technology to detect previously hidden pest problems. This allows for quicker and more effective identification of deep rooted pest control issues, which would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.

The use of thermal imaging surveys allow Rentokil technicians to target treatments to specific areas of your premises which are harbouring pests, allowing quicker pest eradication and reducing the overall use of pesticides.

Thermal imaging is suitable for a range of applications including:

  • Swift identification of pest harbourages in cavity walls and other inaccessible voids
  • Quicker identification of rodent activity at night when rats and mice are most active
  • Rapid detection of bird roosting and nesting points within a building canopy
  • Minimal business disruption with night time thermal imaging inspections of suspected infested buildings, grounds, parks and agricultural land

How thermal imaging surveys work

Thermal imaging works by tracking the heat signature of pests in hidden locations, such as wall cavities, ceiling voids and stored commodities.

Thermal imaging cameras, using Infra Red technology, are used to scan a premise for pests and proofing issues during an in-depth survey.

Areas that are warmer than the surrounding environment are identified as a lighter colour on the thermal imaging survey. These areas are then investigated further by the technician, as the heat signature could potentially indicate a hidden pest problem.

The image on the right was generated by a thermal imaging survey. The lighter area of the image indicates the heat generated by a mouse in the pitch dark. This rodent would not be visible to the the naked eye.

Rodents and birds generate body heat and it is this 'heat signature' that is detected during a thermal imaging survey. A wasps nest in a wall cavity is not visible to the naked eye but will generate a heat signature on a thermal imaging camera.

Once the pest problem has been located by thermal imaging and the pest identified, Rentokil technicians can target treatments to the specific area of infestation identified through the thermal imaging survey.
