Pests can cause all kinds of damage to business and domestic environments, but it is Rentokil's stated aim to deal with all pest problems in ways that have the least possible impact on the natural environment. Environmental pest control is inherent in all our Research and Development and is always evident in our field operations.
Rentokil led the way in developing sophisticated monitoring and detection systems, so reducing the amount of toxins the environment is exposed to, since action only needs to be taken when problems actually occur. Rentokil also adheres closely to all applicable health and safety legislation and regulations, and we've received several health and safety awards in recent years.

Constant innovation is vital to our company — as pests evolve to take advantage of their environment, so does our protection. Here again the emphasis is always on minimal impact to the environment. Our Luminos range of fly killers actually encapsulates the remains of flying insects reducing the risk of contamination from insect parts. Whilst our range of RADAR humane mouse traps contains the mouse in a sealed environment before disposal so the risk of contamination is eliminated. Similarly our Mouse Monitor Unit (MMU) is a non-toxic 24/7 monitoring system suitable for sensitive areas, such as food preparation or schools. Accurate insight into any rodent activity means the most targeted and effective treatments can be used minimising the use of rodenticides. Entotherm heat treatment is our chemical-free method to eliminate pest insects, through targeted application of heat. This groundbreaking pest heat treatment won us the Best Business Award for Best Innovation in the Private Sector.
To further demonstrate our environmental commitment Rentokil are working towards gaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems accreditation. As part of this commitment, a clear structured waste management process was implemented throughout 2010.

Licences for service centres were upgraded to include 8 European Waste Codes. Waste transfer stations were given set colour codes for particular hazardous and non-hazardous waste. This system now runs through every element of the waste process, from waste bags to bins and labelling, making it a very user friendly system. Green for example, is allocated to non-hazardous waste which can be recycled, whilst orange indicates hazardous, pesticide contaminated packaging which requires special segregation and disposal.
Rentokil works closely with sister divisions Initial Washroom Solutions and Initial Medical Solutions, as well as waste management & recycling service Go4Greener to complete recycling and waste disposal.
In the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) annual audit, the auditor commented in his final report: "I was very pleased to see that the company has been exceptionally diligent in ensuring a customer focused service, especially with regards to the management of waste. This shall hopefully form a benchmark in the industry".
Rentokil will continue to work towards reducing waste and our impact on the environment.
