Christmas Top Tips to reduce condensation in your kitchen

Cooking over the Christmas period can be stressful, especially when the whole family has come over. Organising yourself to start cooking the Roast potatoes, brussel sprouts and turkey so that they finish at the same time, leaves you no time to think about condensation prevention.

Kitchen surfaces such as windows, tiles, worktops and walls can all be cold enough for condensation to form and with cooking activities constantly going on, you will not be able to completely rid yourself of condensation. However, you can help to reduce the amount of condensation forming with these five easy steps:

  1. Make sure your kitchen appliances do not leak

Checking the condition of your kitchen appliances should be a regular occurrence in your home, leaking appliances release excess water into your kitchen which can evaporate in the heat of your Christmas cook!

  1. Open your kitchen window

Letting hot air from your Christmas cooking escape through your window will help prevent condensation forming on kitchen surfaces.

  1. Keep your kitchen door closed

Whether it’s preparing for your Christmas meal or boiling the kettle for your hot chocolate, closing kitchen doors will prevent steam from escaping into other rooms, protecting other areas of your home from condensation problems.

  1. Cover all pots & pans

Reduce the moisture that is released into the air by covering pots and pans when cooking your Christmas meal.

  1. Turn on your extractor fan

Turning your extractor fan on (if you have one) reduces the steam left in the room whilst cooking. This may seem simple, but it seems there are some people out there that still forget to use their extractor fan!

If you do happen to notice condensation forming, then you should take a towel and wipe down any work surfaces quickly. Condensation on walls should not be wiped, instead pat this area rather than wiping to avoid damages to paint work.

If left untreated, long term condensation on surfaces can lead to damp problems within your property. Check here to discover the potential signs of damp in your home.

If you believe you have a condensation issue, or that condensation may be the cause of mould or damp occurring in your home, correct diagnosis by a professionally qualified surveyor is important as every condensation issue is different, requiring a specifically tailored solution for your property.

Our local condensation specialists are on hand to help, so all you need do is book a survey appointment and our experts can offer you help and advice.

I joined UK Marketing for Rentokil Pest Control in January 2009. What an enlightenment that has been - cheese mites, bed bugs and confused flour beetles, I never knew such things existed but I have certainly learnt how Rentokil expertise and experience eliminates them. Now my mission is to use the website to show the UK that whatever their pest problem, Rentokil have the solution. Life outside of work revolves around my husband and kids, so life is pretty hectic!
