Earlier this year we brought you the news that our Pestaurant event had been shortlisted in three categories at the annual Golden Hedgehog Awards. Last Thursday the awards ceremony took place, and a team from Rentokil was thrilled to be welcomed onto the stage at London’s Troxy to collect the gong for ‘Event of the Year’.
Since we ran our first Pestaurant at One New Change in London, back in August last year, we’ve helped others pop up (quite literally!) all over the UK, including in Edinburgh and Liverpool, at the Science Museum, and recently at the Northern Bar & Restaurant Show in Manchester (18-19 March). Here we attracted a host of intrigued visitors wanting to take on our new ‘Pestaurant Challenge’ of eating three different flavours or types of bugs to win an ‘I Survived the Rentokil Pestaurant Challenge’ badge and a scorpion lollipop.
From the moment we started serving up our first pigeon burgers to a bemused but delighted crowd of onlookers in August 2013, we knew we were onto a winner. If our Golden Hedgehog Award is anything to go by, the appetitie of the British public for edible bugs and pests shows no signs of abating, so you can expect to see plenty more Pestaurants and mini-bug buffets cropping up all over the country (and also around the globe) over the coming few months.
