Rentokil lights the way in fly control with Lumnia

Rentokil’s Lumnia fly control unit, an electronic fly killer (EFK) developed by our in-house experts, the first in the to use energy efficient LEDs to transmit Ultra Violet (UV) light.

UV light has long been used as an insect attractant within EFKs. Rentokil’s Lumnia fly control unit uniquely uses LED technology to emit UV light, at an optimal frequency to attract flying insects.

This UV light is transmitted 40% further and across a broader catchment area via the unit’s LED strips, than it would be transmitted using standard UV tubes. Furthermore, the LED strips will last at least three years, compared to standard tubes which need to be replaced annually, and with its low power consumption Lumnia delivers an average of 61% in energy savings, when compared to similar products*.

The Lumina looks like no other EFK on the market, with its modern styling, and clever modular design that enables an encapsulation unit to be easily added if required. With different energy modes, it ensures optimum UV light levels are maintained depending on where the unit is located within a building, and enables energy consumption to be lowered in the winter, increased in the summer or even adjusted for day vs. evening.

Berwyn Evans, UK Product Manager for Rentokil Pest Control, comments; “The benefits of LEDs, especially around energy efficiency have long been known, but until now they have not been effectively used to emit the UV output required by fly control units. Following extensive research and development we have been able to develop an EFK which is not only effective, but looks great and also delivers substantial costs savings over competitor units.”

Lumnia can also be serviced without the requirement for a ladder, due to the provision of a clever internal sliding mechanism, and this has beneficial health and safety implications for servicing and reduced business disruption.

During extensive half-life testing the Lumnia delivered effective results when compared to popular competitor units, both in terms of energy efficiency and fly catch rate.

Flies pose significant hygiene risks as they can transmit a wide range of different pathogens and they represent one of the most common causes of food poisoning. Fly control is therefore an essential part of day to day operations for many businesses in the UK, including the more than 320,000 food related SMEs. Lumnia units are designed to attract, kill and encapsulate insects hygienically, helping eliminate the risk of contamination.

Lumnia LED electric fly killers offer ‘food related’ businesses such as hotel and hospitality venues and their customer’s peace of mind.

I joined UK Marketing for Rentokil Pest Control in January 2009. What an enlightenment that has been - cheese mites, bed bugs and confused flour beetles, I never knew such things existed but I have certainly learnt how Rentokil expertise and experience eliminates them. Now my mission is to use the website to show the UK that whatever their pest problem, Rentokil have the solution. Life outside of work revolves around my husband and kids, so life is pretty hectic!
