Lumnia: Fly Control for Your Business | Pest Control Blog

A fly infestation can spell disaster – they’re one of the most likely insects to cause damage and disruption to a business. There are, astonishingly, 120,000 fly species worldwide posing a health risk to staff and customers by spreading disease and contaminating goods. Lumnia LED fly control is the sustainable solution.

Flies have a short lifecycle. They multiply rapidly, with some fly species able to mature from eggs to adults in just seven days. As you can imagine, this can cause a lot of turmoil for businesses.

Prevention is, more often than not, better than the cure. But these days, there is heightened awareness about the need to protect the environment – focusing on sustainability in response to the climate crisis and energy saving in the current economic circumstances. Gone are the days when the solution to eradicate flies was the push for automobiles as a means to reduce the demand for horses and the manure associated with them.

Lighting the way in fly control

Scientific innovation and expertise has helped to design a commercial fly-control solution that effectively attracts, kills and encapsulates flies sustainably and hygienically. Lumnia LED insect light traps (ILTs) attract and contain flying insects quickly, securely, hygienically and out of sight. They work by using high-attraction LED lamps to attract flies to the unit.

Introducing the Lumnia LED family

Lumnia Suspended – ceiling-suspended and perfect for high-dependency businesses such as industrial sites, warehouses, food processing or pharmaceutical facilities, Suspended hangs in the centre of the room, with a lamp on each side of the unit and one below for 360-degree coverage.

Lumnia Ultimate – wall-mounted and ideal for back operations such as processing plants, warehouses, pharmaceutical or general industry sites, Ultimate is one of the biggest units in our range, with three, 10-watt LED lamps using as littles 20.2 watts of energy* and an adhesive film inside an additional encapsulation cassette to trap, collect and contain the insects hygienically.

Lumnia Standard – wall-mounted and perfect for back operations such as processing plants or warehouses, Lumnia Standard features two LED lamps using as little as 13 watts of energy*, glueboards and an additional encapsulation cassette for powerful entrapment.

Lumnia Compact – with one lamp, which uses as little as 6.5 watts of energy*, when used in low energy mode. Compact is one of the best performing units in the range. Ideally suited to back-of-house or front-of-house, customer-facing locations, featuring an unobtrusive design that’s perfect for public areas.

Lumnia Slim – for front-of-house, customer-facing locations such as cafés, bars, restaurants and receptions, Slim is one of the smallest and most discreet ILTs, employing a single, 10-watt LED lamp that attracts insects from up to 80% farther away than traditional fluorescent tubes.

Four sustainable reasons to choose the Lumnia range

HACCP-approved, Lumnia has helped Rentokil to provide a powerful solution that has also protected the environment since its introduction four years ago. By adopting the Lumnia family, your organisation can create its own sustainability success story and take advantage of the following four benefits – plus many more.

  1. The lowest energy consumption lamp on the market*
Lumnia LED lamps save up to 79% energy compared to fluorescent bulb ILTs when using their unique adaptive mode technology. Lumnia Compact, Standard, Ultimate and Suspended all feature adaptive mode options where you can opt to increase or decrease the power output of the lamps, without significantly compromising the efficacy of the unit. The Lumnia Compact will use as little as 6.5 watts of energy when used in low energy mode.
  1. Energy savings of up to 79%
Lumnia could save businesses significant energy costs by replacing their old fluorescent fly control units to a low energy LED Lumnia unit. As an example, if a business replaced their Lumnios 3 Plus with a Lumnia Compact they would benefit with a £140 saving per unit exchanged.
  1. 67% reduction in lamp waste
Lumnia LED lamps need replacing once every three years as opposed to fluorescent bulbs that need to be replaced every year. This means that for every three fluorescent bulbs, you only need one Lumnia LED lamp, thereby reducing your lamp waste by 67%. As a result of not having to change the lamps more than once every three years, Rentokil has managed to reduce lamp waste by 750,000 units, making Lumnia more environmentally friendly than existing ILTs. Furthermore, Lumnia LED lamps do not use any Mercury and boast zero-toxic chemicals.
  1. Reduction in carbon emissions by 62%
Lumnia can help businesses sustainability with a 62% reduction in carbon emissions, as certified by The Planet Mark. Over just four years, based on data from the Environmental Protection Agency Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, Lumnia has saved 26,600 tonnes of CO2  – that’s equivalent to powering over 3,200 homes for a year**.
