The city nestles in a natural amphitheatre created by several hills forming the eastern foothills of the Pennines, and the confluence of five rivers: Don, Sheaf, Rivelin, Loxley and Porter. Following the war, the 1950s and 1960s saw many large scale developments in the city due to the effects of the Sheffield Blitz. Also at this time many of the city's slums were demolished, and replaced with housing schemes such as the Park Hill flats and the Gleadless Valley estate. In and around Sheffield, including areas such as Wakefield, Worksop and Dewsbury, there are many period and historic listed buildings, as well as a vast array of styles and ages of homes. Sheffield is changing rapidly as new projects regenerate some of the more run-down parts of the city.

Like the rest of the UK the climate in Sheffield is generally temperate. The Pennines to the west can create a cool and damp environment, but they also provide some shelter from the prevailing and forceful westerly winds, casting a slight "rain shadow" across some of the area. Excess moisture from persistently damp environments can eventually be absorbed through walls and floors into the fabric of a property. The problems caused by this are not always immediately obvious. In many cases it can take several months or years before rot or damp problems become visible.

There are more than 250 parks, woodlands and gardens in the city, with an estimated figure of 2 million trees and claims of Sheffield having the highest ratio of trees to people of any city in Europe. Parks and open spaces across Sheffield and the rest of the South Yorkshire area could offer harbourage to wood-boring beetles. Lofts, cellars, garages and garden sheds could also unknowingly, shelter powder post or common furniture beetles. The larvae (woodworm) of these insects can cause serious damage to wooden timbers in properties if left untreated. Our knowledge, experience and innovative solutions are vital in understanding how to rid these premises of any property care issues, such as woodworm, damp or dry rot, with as little disruption as possible.
